How to Search the Independence County Court Docket
Start with Search ARCourts, the main public tool for an Independence County court docket. No registration stands in the way. One lookup can surface parties, the assigned judge, filings, charges, judgments, future events, and links to some public documents. Treat it as an informational index only, not a certified record or legal notice.
Sharpen any Independence County docket search by naming the court as well as the party or case number. The portal lists INDEPENDENCE CIRCUIT, INDEPENDENCE BATESVILLE, and INDEPENDENCE COUNTY among its location choices. A broad name search with County set to INDEPENDENCE is usually the smartest first pass.
- Choose Participants for a name search, or switch to the case or citation number context.
- Enter the known name or exact number, preserving punctuation in a case number.
- Set County to INDEPENDENCE and choose a court location only when the case level is known.
- Open the matching result and compare filings, dispositions, judgments, and Future Events.
- Ask the maintaining clerk for a certified copy when an official record is required.
The official interface shows the fields used for an Independence County court docket search.
That screen is only the public starting point. Local clerks handle missing, old, restricted, or certification questions.
Independence County Docket Search Fields
Search ARCourts splits participant searches from case or citation number searches. Participant fields cover first, middle, and last name, organization or case description, and optional advanced filters. Prefix name matching needs at least three characters. Date of birth and driver license fields exist. County and Court Location can narrow a search without pulling in sensitive data, though.
The portal also checks your inputs. A Start Range must come before the End Range. Dates cannot fall in the future. The year cannot be earlier than 1900. Watch one quirk: clearing County clears Court Location too, which can quietly widen your results.
| Field | Best Use | Independence County Choice |
|---|---|---|
| County | Limits statewide results | INDEPENDENCE |
| Court Location | Separates court levels | INDEPENDENCE CIRCUIT, BATESVILLE, or COUNTY |
| Case Type | Narrows a large result set | Use only after confirming the case class |
| Date Range | Limits docket activity | Keep Start before End |
| Docket Code | Filters an event type | No local-only code list is published |
Note: a filter that is narrow but wrong can hide a valid Independence County court docket. Strip the filters before concluding a case is absent.
What an Independence County Court Docket Shows
Think of an Independence County court docket as a running index. It separates filings already entered from Future Events that have not occurred. It also keeps a criminal charge apart from its disposition, and a civil filing apart from the signed judgment behind it. Some entries link to a public document. Many do not.
Copy case numbers exactly. Arkansas's own examples are 10CR-09-100 for Circuit Court and LRCR-09-100 for District Court. Each shows a prefix, year, and sequence, but neither proves a fixed Independence County prefix.
| Case number | The court identifier; keep letters, hyphens, and digits in place. |
|---|---|
| Parties | People or organizations formally participating where public. |
| Filings | The dated activity list, with document links only when available. |
| Future Events | Upcoming hearings or scheduled work that should be confirmed after a reset. |
| Judge and court | The assigned judicial officer and the location tied to the case. |
| Disposition or judgment | The recorded outcome, distinct from a hearing setting. |
The Arkansas Judiciary lists its public tools in one place.
The service directory keeps public case search separate from electronic filing and payment systems.
Three Independence County Docket Records
A docket, a filed image, and a certified copy each serve a different need. The docket lists activity. The image is the actual complaint, motion, order, judgment, or other document an entry names. A certified copy carries the maintaining clerk's authentication. That official form is what you need when proof of the record is required.
- Docket
- The public running list of filings, settings, and outcomes.
- Filed document
- The actual paper or electronic item indexed by one docket entry.
- Certified copy
- A clerk-authenticated copy, unlike a printout from Search ARCourts.
- Redacted
- A public version with confidential data removed under Arkansas court rules.
Missing image? Quote the exact Independence County case number, filing name, and filing date to the right clerk. That request is far more precise than asking for the entire file.
Which Courts Keep Independence County Dockets
Circuit Court is Arkansas's general-jurisdiction trial court. In Independence County it handles felony criminal matters, general civil cases, domestic relations, probate, and juvenile divisions. District Court holds limited jurisdiction. It covers traffic, misdemeanors, civil claims up to $25,000, and small claims up to $5,000.
The official Circuit Court overview places Independence County inside the five-county Sixteenth Judicial Circuit. Circuit judges may hear assigned subject matter across the circuit. District appeals generally move up to Circuit Court. Circuit appeals enter the Arkansas appellate system.
| Court | Docket Covers | Where to Search |
|---|---|---|
| Independence County Circuit Court | Felony, general civil, domestic relations, probate, juvenile | Search ARCourts, then Circuit Clerk |
| Independence County District Court | Traffic, misdemeanor, small claims, limited civil | Search ARCourts, then District Court Clerk |
| County Court | County-government business, not a general trial docket | County Clerk |
The statewide court structure page provides context for the Independence County court docket.
It explains why the same county name can lead to different clerks and different case-search filters.
Three Independence County Docket Counters
Batesville has three government addresses on Main Street, each with its own job. The Circuit Clerk and County Clerk sit at 192 East Main. District Court is at 549 West Main. Batesville City Hall occupies 500 East Main. It is not the District Court record counter, though.
The county court-information page also lists Juvenile Court and Juvenile Intake and Probate at 368 Main Street, Suite 205. Match the court level before you go. A felony or general civil request belongs nowhere near the District Court building. A traffic or misdemeanor request should never go to City Hall.
Court level decides which Independence County docket counter you need.
Finding Independence County Court Dates
ARCourts Future Events is the online case-level path. The court posts no standalone Independence County daily calendar. Read the latest event alongside the most recent filing or notice. A recurring weekly schedule helps as context, but it cannot replace a case-specific setting.
District Court convenes each Wednesday except holidays. Pleas and arraignments fill the morning. DWI Court runs at noon, and criminal and traffic trials generally start at 1:00 p.m. Civil and small-claims trials land on the last Wednesday of the month. The full Independence County court calendar explains how to confirm the current date after a continuance.
For Circuit Court, call 870-793-8833. For District Court, call 870-793-8817. Ask for the date, time, location, and setting type. Also ask whether a newer reset replaced the visible event.
Wednesday Independence County Docket Rhythm
Read the Wednesday schedule as blocks rather than one long line. A morning plea or arraignment differs from the noon DWI program and the afternoon trial session. The last Wednesday adds civil and small-claims trials, and holidays or special settings can shift the whole pattern.
Docket flow: plea or arraignment › later motion or review › trial or plea › disposition › payment or appeal activity.
The official District Court page lists each local division with its contact details, hours, and recurring schedule.
Check each Independence County notice, then confirm with the clerk.
Public Access to Independence County Dockets
Arkansas court access rules come first. They allow public inspection and copying of Independence County court records without asking your purpose, though remote access is never guaranteed. Search ARCourts can leave things out. Certain courts, records, images, sealed material, protected identifiers, and restricted case types may simply not appear in a docket search there.
Juvenile and adoption files stay tightly closed. Sealed or expunged criminal matters are off limits to the public and to bulk extracts, and even family cases, which are not all sealed, can have protected content withheld or redacted.
Key rules:
Administrative Order 19 governs access, exclusions, and special requests for Arkansas court records.
Administrative Order 19.1 requires confidential data to be removed from public versions.
Arkansas Freedom of Information Act supports public inspection, while court rules and specific confidentiality laws still control court files.
A restriction is not proof the Independence County court docket is missing. Someone with authority should ask the filing court directly what identification or order the clerk requires.
How Independence County Clerks Keep Dockets
Greg Wallis serves as Independence County Circuit Clerk. His office keeps current and past Circuit Court proceedings and dispositions, and it issues dockets, summonses, warrants, orders, judgments, and injunctions. It also acts as county recorder. A recorded deed or lien is its own record, though, and not the same thing as a case docket.
For courthouse contact details and the local payment route, the official Circuit Clerk page is what the office itself maintains.
Felony, civil, domestic, or old Circuit records start here.

Independence County Probate Docket Custody
Under Arkansas's structure, probate belongs to Circuit Court. The Independence County website, though, names the County Clerk as clerk of probate and directs estate, guardianship, adoption, small-estate, and mental or alcoholic petition users to that office. Both facts matter.
The County Clerk page names Tracey Nast Mitchell and carries the local probate direction.
Call the County Clerk at 870-793-8828 and the Circuit Clerk at 870-793-8833, and ask which office can certify the exact record. Confirm who holds the file.
Missing Independence County Docket Results
An empty result screen can mean many things. The filter may be wrong, the court may not expose everything, or the file may be old, newly filed, or restricted. Strip the search down first. Drop the date of birth, date range, case type, and docket code, then retry the name, the exact case number, and each supported Independence court location.
Felony and general civil go to the Circuit Clerk. Traffic, misdemeanor, small claims, and limited civil belong to the District Court Clerk. Probate may start at the County Clerk. AOC technical help sits at 501-410-1900 option 1 or 866-823-5778, but case-specific questions go back to the filing court. That bounce is standard.
Search fix: Confirm the court before adding more fields. One wrong location can hide the right Independence County court docket.
Independence County Docket History
Independence County was created in 1820. Batesville has served as county seat ever since. The current Art Deco courthouse was completed in 1940 with Works Progress Administration help. Earlier buildings date from 1826, 1859, and 1893. Surviving records run deep. They include a County Court book from 1838 through 1849, deed and will books, an 1829 tax list, and marriage material.
The official county history traces those courthouses and the later work on court facilities. No docket-destroying fire appears in county history. So treat a missing old record as an index or storage question, not a presumed loss. Ask the clerk about year, index format, and storage. Old volumes may sit elsewhere. Both courthouse storage and Arkansas repositories can hold historical bound books from Independence County.
Independence County Docket Technology
Independence County joined the Contexte case-management environment around 2020. Arkansas completed Circuit Court e-filing in March 2023. Search ARCourts then replaced Public CourtConnect in January 2024. Even with shared case data, the systems serve different users.
Arkansas eFlex is the authenticated filing tool for attorneys and registered filers. Search ARCourts is the free public discovery layer. A payment page finds eligible accounts or citations. It does not show the full register of actions or prove the current setting.
A cloud-native ARCourts system is in development. Demonstrated functions include person search, electronic citations, filing, event scheduling, outcomes, and payments. The state has not named Independence County as a beta participant. Stick with the published tools for now.
Contexte reporting has routine maintenance overnight and over part of the weekend. An outage during those windows does not mean an Independence County docket was removed. Retry the public search after maintenance. If a filing or future event still cannot be found, call the correct clerk, because the state publishes no fixed Independence County refresh interval and a recent paper filing may need direct confirmation.
Independence County Docket Service Area
The 2020 Census counted 37,938 Independence County residents. The county spans about 763.71 square miles. Public counters sit mainly in Batesville, which makes online docket search and a phone call to the clerk especially useful for residents elsewhere in the county.
The Census Bureau county profile supplies the population and land-area context.
Those figures measure area, not caseload. Do not present circuit-wide projections or old municipal filing totals as current Independence County docket counts.
A district change arrived in 2025. Independence, Fulton, and Izard Counties now form the six-department Fourteenth State District Court District. Batesville stays the Independence department. The reorganization redraws the administrative map, not the local address printed for Independence County traffic, misdemeanor, small-claims, and limited-civil records.
Official Independence County Docket Directory
Numbers for county offices go stale. Before you chase down an Independence County court docket, check the official department directory. It puts the Circuit Clerk, the County Clerk, the District Court, and other county offices in one place.
The Independence County home page lists that directory.
Skip the generic county line. Call the named department when you need to confirm an Independence County court docket or request copies.
Court Dockets by City in Independence County
The five busiest cities get their own pages. They are ordered by the official 2020 Census whole-place ranking. Here is the catch. Independence County runs a single state District Court location, the Batesville Department. It is not five separate city court portals.
Batesville, Southside, Newark, and Sulphur Rock traffic and misdemeanor cases all travel the supported county route. Cave City sits astride the Independence and Sharp County line. Whichever court is printed on its citation controls the case.
Every city page opens with the local search trap. It also covers the court route and the surest way to confirm a current setting.

Population rank does not decide jurisdiction. The charge, the court level, and the named filing court determine where an Independence County docket lives.
Map and Directions to the Independence County Courthouse
Circuit Court cases, dispositions, and Circuit Clerk Greg Wallis's office are kept at the Independence County Courthouse, 192 East Main Street in Batesville, an Art Deco building completed in 1940 with Works Progress Administration help. Traffic, misdemeanor criminal, small-claims, and limited-civil matters are handled in a separate building, the District Court at 549 West Main Street, so a visitor should confirm the record type before choosing an address.
